When our founder began The Chrysalis Program, she had returned from traveling to Ghana. Spending just three weeks in Accra, Ghana and surrounding areas changed her life forever. She learned what it was like to be in a country where she was not a minority. She learned that the American standard of beauty, its core values, and customs are not universal. She returned with a new empowered self-image that she wanted to share with the future generations.
One of the goals, when Chrysalis began, was take groups of African American girls to countries where the native people resemble what they see in the mirror.
Our dream will be realized during CPS Spring Break 2024. We will raise the funds to take 15 students to West Africa to participate in a service project, connect with West African girls to learn similarities and differences in the culture, experience culture and history, and to be emersed in the experience of making a pilgrimage back home.

We are raising money to cover passports, transportation, lodging, meals and other travel expenses. Students will be selected based on the amount of participation in the Chrysalis Program and attendance at Chrysalis Abroad workshops, events, and field trips.

Guiding our Trek to Ghana will be Ghanaian American owned Tour Agency called Amaraba Tours. The agency plans the details of the trek to provide a level of safety and comfort for participants.
Chrysalis Summer program is flexible in that classes can be chosen ala carte or as a full/half day summer camp. As with all Chrysalis programming, enrichment trips, and community events the goal is for participants to be impacted, educated, and entertained. The Chrysalis Summer program delivers this and more using interactive projects, nature adventures, life skills workshops, wellness practices and creative arts. That and add the fun of Summertime Chi! We will explore Chicago, culture and hidden gems.
For the past 6 years each of our Saturday Sessions have begun with breakfast, a STEM workshop, an icebreaker, and affirmations. Students attend age appropriate Social Emotional and Wellness classes that have an elements of creative arts and life skills. Parents join our Parent Instructor to learn, grow, and heal together. After classes are complete, all come together for enjoy a hot lunch and fellowship. Saturday Sessions are available during the Spring and Fall semesters. Enrichment field trips in lieu of Saturday Session take place on occasion to better support the topic for the month. Register for Fall, today!
Group and individual counseling is available to Chrysalis family on an as needed bases without the barrier of cost or insurance.
